The district police have arrested three people who allegedly snatched Rs 20 lakh from two employees of RK Factory here on the Sangrur-Malerkotla road on Thursday.
The police also recovered the money, a pistol and a motorcycle from the trio's possession.
Giving this information here on Friday, inspector general (IG), Patiala range, Paramjeet Singh Gill said the accused had been identified as Sindar Singh, Arshveer Singh and Mohammad Sikandar. A co-accused, Gurpreet Singh of Malerkotla, is absconding.
The IG promoted assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Major Singh as sub-inspector (SI), constable Sukhjeet Singh as ASI and Hansraj of the Punjab Home Guards as a Punjab police constable for their role in arresting the accused within a few hours of the incident.
Gill said factory employees Gurpreet Singh and Raman Kumar had withdrawn Rs 20 lakh from Punjab National Bank's Malerkotla branch on Thursday. They were on their way to the factory when the accused chased them on a motorcycle and took away the bag at gunpoint. He added that soon after getting information about the incident, the Amargarh police arrested the accused at Koop Kalan village.
During the interrogation, accused Sikandar said he had worked in the factory in 2004-05.
