Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader HS Phoolka on Friday attacked the Punjab government over compensation of Rs 25-lakh announced to martyr's Baljit Singh's family, terming it to be very less.
Phoolka, who was here in town to pay condolences to the family of slain Gurdaspur superintendent of police (detective), who died battling terror attack in Dinanagar on July 27, said the government should have announced at least Rs 1-crore compensation to help the family.
The Punjab government has announced a compassionate job of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) for the son of the martyr and a financial aid of Rs 25-lakh for the family.
Phoolka said according to the Delhi government's policy there was a provision of giving Rs 1-crore and a compassionate job to the family of the martyr. "Job of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) given on compassionate grounds is good, but meagre Rs 25-lakh for the family who has lost their bread earner is a very less amount. The state government should have announced a compensation of at least Rs 1-crore," he said.
He said that the government should take intelligence alerts seriously to avoid this kind of terror attack in the state in future.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Bagha, chairman, Punjab state commission for scheduled castes, also met the family of the martyr and paid his heartfelt condolences. He said the demise of Baljit was a great loss to the entire state.
