The MC vigilance report has indicted 10 engineers of causing a loss of Rs 3 crore in the case pertaining to operation and maintenance of the sewerage treatment plant at Diggian, SAS Nagar.
The report was submitted by former MC vigilance officer Sarita Malik to MC commissioner B Purushartha last week, recommending action against the erring engineers.
Instead of taking action, the MC commissioner has constituted another panel under MC joint commissioner Rajeev Gupta’ chairmanship, seeking comments. However, Gupta said, “We will submit the report soon.”
Officers in dock
Former executive engineer VK Garg, executive engineers BK Dhawan, RS Bedi (posted in UT administration now), Gurpreet Singh (now transferred to Punjab), sub-divisional engineers Harish Saini, Sat Kartar Singh (now transferred to Haryana), Jaspal Singh (retd) and junior engineers Sanjeev Chauhan, Gaurav Pal and Lalit Kumar.
Surprisingly, even the then executive engineer Gurpreet Singh in his statement to the inquiry officer had stated that he followed the practice of his predecessors. He also admitted that he didn’t consciously bring the matter to the notice of higher ups and kept floating tenders for purchase of dewatering polyelectrolyte (DWPE), sludge disposal and watch of the plant.
