The byelections for two Rajya Sabha seats from Haryana will be on December 5.
The seats fell vacant after the resignations of Birender Singh (Congress) on August 28 and Ranbir Singh Gangua (Indian National Lok Dal) on November 1. Their term was till August 1, 2016. The Election Commission of India released the scheduled on Saturday.
Birender Singh had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the recent Haryana assembly elections, while Gangua had won the Nalwa assembly seat.
The deadlines are November 25 for filing nomination, November 26 for the scrutiny of papers and November 28 for the withdrawal of candidature. Polling, if necessary, will be held on December 5 and votes counted the same evening.
Sources in the BJP say Birender Singh is likely to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha, since he has also been made a minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet. In the House of 90 in Haryana, the BJP has 47 legislators.
