Police on Friday found the bodies of a runaway couple in the JLN Canal under Kosli police jurisdiction in Rewari district. The victims, both teenagers, were residents of Nahar and Kuhard villages in the same district.

Kosli deputy superintendent of police Dhanpati Devi said the victims were studying in Class 11 of the government school at Nahar.

After the girl went missing on January 20, her father lodged a complaint in the Kosli police station, alleging that the boy had kidnapped her. Police had registered a case and launched a manhunt.

On Friday, villagers informed police that bodies were floating in the JLN Canal. "Both were tied together with a shawl," said the DSP, who had reached the spot. The bodies were sent to the Rewari civil hospital.

Sources said the girl, who was from the Ahir community, and the boy, from Rajput community, wanted to marry each other, but their parents disapproved of the match, forcing them to elope.

On the possibility of it being an honour killing, police said they were investigating the case and could not rule out anything initially.
