The accused have been identified as Malkiat Singh of Rampur Laliya village, Amandeep Singh and Harjit Singh of Chugawan village, Jagpreet Singh of Malko village, Jagdish of Tarar village, Gurmeet Kumar of Bashesarpur.

The rural police said acting on a tip-off, a police team led by sub-inspector Malkiat Singh raided an abandoned house at Malko Tarar village in the district and nabbed them.

Police said the gang members purportedly confessed to have committed dozens of thefts in various areas of city and villages. They also confessed to have stolen motorcycles and robbed liquor vends, claimed police. With their arrest as many as 15 cases were expected to be solved, said police.

Police said the gang used to target showrooms of electronic goods after proper planning in daylight. Superintendent of police (detective) HPS Khakh said the accused had been produced before a local court, which sent them in two-day police remand.

He said police seized two motorcycles, three sharp-edged weapons, two DVDs, three LCDs, four washing machines, two dinner sets, one TV, one home theatre, two gas cylinders, one FM radio and two standing phones from locations provided by the gang members.

He said other members of the gang would also be nabbed as teams had been formed after getting clues from the arrested gang members.
