The central department of personnel and training on Tuesday issued a notification for handing over the investigation into the incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in Punjab to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The notification came following a recommendation sent by Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal on November 1.
According to the notification, the CBI will investigate three FIRs registered by the Punjab Police at Bajakhana in Faridkot district.
A police spokesperson said the CBI had “re-registered” the three FIRs as regular cases (RC) and a team of CBI officers will be visiting Faridkot district shortly.
The Punjab Police will be providing the required logistic support to the CBI in the investigations, the spokesperson added.
Earlier this month, the home department of the Punjab government had decided to hand over the investigations related to the incidents of sacrilege to the CBI and routed the matter to the Centre through the chief minister’s office.
