The police have arrested the district president of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) (Amritsar) for allegedly attacking a resident of Gurbaksh Colony on Sunday morning.

On the other hand, the accused, Jaswant Singh Cheema, also filed a counter complaint against the complainant of assaulting him. Therefore, separate cases have been registered against both parties at the Salem Tabri police station.

In his complaint, Jagman Yadav of Gurbaksh Colony alleged that Cheema had an altercation with him. Later, on Sunday morning, Cheema barged into his house with his accomplices and opened attack on him. After thrashing them and vandalising his house, Cheema and his aides fled the spot, he alleged.

However, Cheema alleged that the accused had thrashed his acquaintance for no reason. When he went to the spot to intervene in the matter, the accused assaulted him as well.

Inspector Kewal Krishan, station house officer (SHO), Salem Tabri, said the police had arrested Cheema after registering a case. He said they were investing the matter and more arrests were expected.
