While the ruling SAD has re-fielded Sher Singh Gubaya as its party nominee for the Lok Sabha election from here, but Congress has so far not reached a consensus on the declaration of the candidate for the seat, which it has failed to win since 1985.

Out of the nine assembly segments in Ferozepur, SAD(B) and Congress shared four seats equally and one is with BJP. The caste factor had played an important role in the last parliamentary polls. It is perhaps due to this factor that SAD (B) has gone in favour of Gubaya, a Rai Sikh. The community has more than 2.30 lakh voters.

SAD(B) has been won the seat four times in a row and hopes to retain it for the fifth time.

Meanwhile, Congress leadership is busy holding meetings

To select a candidate.

Guruharsahai MLA Rana Gurmit Sodhi, former president of Punjab Youth Congress Rawinder Awla and Akali- turned Congress leader Harnirpal Singh Kukku, who is also father-in-law of Anumeet Hira Sodhi (son of Rana Sodhi) are state to be in the final panel and an announcement of the candidate can be made anytime.
