The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has extended support to the land acquisition bill passed in the Lok Sabha with a purpose to secure the ministerial berth of Bathinda member of Parliament and Union food processing industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and protect her brother and Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia from the central investigating agencies in the alleged multi-crore drug racket.

State convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sucha Singh Chhotepur, who was here on Saturday, to attend the marriage ceremony of the brother of AAP leader Baljinder Kaur, who unsuccessfully contested the bypoll in Talwandi Sabo assembly segment held in August last year, said that the SAD, by supporting the ‘anti-farmer’ land acquisition bill in Parliament, the SAD has put the very interest of the farming community at stake.

The AAP leader said even Shiv Sena, the oldest ally of the BJP, which has its main vote bank in cities, didn’t support the bill terming it anti-farmer, but the SAD, after showing initial resentment against the bill, supported it in the Lok Sabha, which showed that the SAD did so to save the ministerial berth of Harsimrat Kaur.

Meanwhile, volunteers of the AAP also took out a bicycle rally in the city on Saturday to make people aware of the prevailing VVIP culture in the state.
