Inaugurating a solar power plant in Mansa on Tuesday, state minister for new and renewable energy Bikram Singh Majithia said the alliance between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) would not be strained due to the recent comments made by former Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu.

"Our alliance is not personality centric. BJP top leadership has high regards for chief minister Parkash Singh Badal." He claimed that SAD was the most reliable ally of the BJP as the party had extended unconditional support unlike the Shiv Sena which has split with the BJP in Maharashtra.

Majithia said it was a matter of pride for the state that companies successfully running their solar power projects in Gujarat were looking at Punjab as a land of opportunities for expansion.

He said the Punjab government had undertaken a comprehensive exercise to identify all the available panchayati and non-cultivable lands for setting up solar power plants having joint generation capacity of 1000 MW power throughout the state as the union ministry of non-conventional and renewable energy had, in principle, agreed to set up an ultra mega solar power park.

He said the world's single largest roof top plant of 7.5 MW capacity had been set up at Beas in Amritsar district. Majithia said that in a major initiative, roof-top solar PV plants were being set up in 120 police stations throughout the state and added that the chief minister would be inaugurating the project soon.

Those present on the occasion included rajya sabha MP Balwinder Singh Bhunder, MLA Chatin Singh Samao, deputy commissioner Parveen Kumar Thind, managing director of Madhav Solar Private Limited Amit Khurana and others.
