Hitting back at the Punjab government over questioning the contribution of union ministers from Punjab to the state, information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari on Tuesday said: “Leave aside special projects, the SAD-BJP government is surviving only on the Central grants, as it has virtually gone broke and bankrupt.”

“Let the government explain that what has happened to the promise of surplus power, unemployment allowance, free laptops and the bicycles,” asked Tewari, stating that the bicycles distributed by the government had not been paid for as yet, and suppliers were being made to beg for their payments.

“But the state government needs not to worry about that as there are competent and capable people taking care.

“Moreover, we are frequently debating and discussing the state of economy in Punjab in Parliament, and if you have courage and conviction better hold a discussion in the Punjab Assembly,” he challenged the Akali-BJP government.

Tewari said people who were criticising the central ministers from Punjab should know that the Ludhiana-Delhi Shatabadi, which has now been extended up to Moga and is running daily, covers more than half of the Malwa region and has provided them direct and instant daily connectivity with the national Capital.

“It is a separate matter some vested powers in Punjab never wanted this train, as that would adversely impact their bus transport business,” he said.
