As many as 100 workers of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a meeting here on Monday and announced their support to Jagteshwar Singh Majithia, the son-in-law of senior Akali leader and Nawanshahr's SAD in-charge, Satinder Kaur Kariha.

Among those who attended the meeting included Sham Sunder Jadla, Satinder Kaur Bisla, Succha Singh, Manjinder Singh Walia, and Jagjeet Singh. They alleged that some vested interests were defaming the party.

They said that Majithia was an asset for the party and the 'outsider' tag on him was uncalled for. They said party leaders having differences with Majithia should sort them out by talking to the party president and not to take the issue to the media.

Last week, some of the senior SAD leaders, including SGPC member Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, Jagjit Singh Lally, Harjit Singh Bhatti, had accused Majithia of interfering in the party's functioning in Nawanshahr and refused to consider him as their leader.
