“On Sunday, she asked me to get knee replacement done, but when I requested her to wait for a month, she started shouting at me,” said Prince told the media. “Depression has ruined our family,” he added.

Sukhjit’s body was found in a pool of blood in her room on Monday noon when her daughter-in-law Nancy opened the door. She had retired in her room on Sunday at 3:30 pm after returning from a wedding at Landran and no one from the family talked to her after that.

“I keep my revolver at home and carry it when I am out of the town. We had gone to Amritsar and after returning, I kept the weapon in my mother’s closet,” added Prince.

Sukhjit was short-tempered and was not keeping will for the past couple of years and was on medication. But her condition deteriorated in the past few months. She had ulcers in her food pipe, thyroid and used to complaint of migraine, said the family.

“She used to take sleeping pills every night and no one could enter her room. She had instructed us not knock at the door till she herself comes out. So, we didn’t react when she did not open the door till noon on Monday,” added Prince, who had gone out with his wife on Sunday evening while his father Daljeet Singh was at home.

Knew how to use weapon

The entire family was under her control,” said Baljeet Kaur her neighbour.

No one heard gunshot

Sukhjit’s family has no clue when she shot herself as no one heard the gunshot. “After we returned from a wedding function, she went to her room at while I along with my wife went out and my father was in the office. We returned at night. My father and our servant were at home but no one heard the gunshot. Foul smell was emanating from the room when we opened the door,” said Prince.
