SAD councillor from ward no 75 Sarabjit Singh Garcha's son, nephew and 20 others have been booked in an attempt to murder case for allegedly opening fire at an agitating supporter of independent candidate Hansraj on Sunday evening.

No arrest has been made as yet, as the accused have absconded.

The victim, Davinder Singh, 50, of Dhandhari Kalan, has been undergoing treatment at the DMC Hospital.

The accused have been identified as Gurbir Singh, son of newly elected councillor Garcha, and Garcha's nephew Ruby.

The incident took place when Hansraj's supporters were agitating against the district administration accusing the officers of embezzling the MC poll results. The supporters alleged that the officers on election duty had declared Hansraj as the winner, but after some time the officers embezzled the result in favour of Garcha. They also blocked traffic on the national highway near Dhandhari.

Amrik Singh, brother of Davinder Singh, said when they were agitating against the election officers, the accused had come there and opened fire at them. A bullet pierced Davinder's shoulder. They rushed him to a hospital.

Meanwhile, the accused managed to flee the spot. The case has been registered on the complaint of Amrik Singh.

According to inspector Davinder Choudhary, SHO of the Focal Point police station, the police have launched a manhunt to arrest the accused and had raided several places for their arrest, but the accused are at large.
