He may be a good orator but the Shiromani Akali Dal district unit president Indermohan Singh Bajaj is certainly no expert when it comes to speaking at party forum to boost the morale of workers for the election campaign of its candidate Deepinder Singh Dhillon.

Bajaj put his foot in his mouth as while motivating the councillors he said: “You all know that how you have won with the help of the police and the administration. Now concentrate hard on your respective wards as the Lok Sabha elections are fought under the strict code of conduct”.

These words of Bajaj came at the dinner hosted by his son, mayor Amarinder Singh Bajaj to introduce all elected members of the municipal corporation to Dhillon.

The Congress during the elections had rued that the Akalis rigged the MC polls, which was strongly denied by the SAD.

However, the words of the Bajaj left party leaders red-faced.

Sources said upping the ante against Bajaj, former mayor Jaspal Singh Pardhan and Ajit Pal Singh Kohli grilled Bajaj over the issue and asked him not to demoralize the workers.

With this, the councillors from the SAD-BJP questioned the poor performance of the mayor Amarinder Bajaj in last one year and said that MC performance will cost dearly to the SAD-BJP alliance.

This prompted Charanjit Singh Rakhra, brother of cabinet minister Surjit Rakhra to come to the rescue of Mayor and his father from the mudslinging.

It’s not for the first time when Bajaj has stunned the party workers with his ill-advised words.

Recently, he has taken a dig at the poor working of the MC, unmindful that his son is present mayor of Patiala.

Meanwhile, at the meeting, Charanjit Rakhra assured Dhillon that councillors will ensure victory in the all wards of the Patiala city.

Addressing the meetings of the councillors, Rakhra said mayor Amarinder Singh Bajaj and all the councillors of the alliance would work hard to ensure that the SAD-BJP alliance emerge victorious in every ward of the city.

He said this time the election had special significance for the city voters as they had to choose between the one whom they elected thrice but she failed to do a single work for the city and the other who was representing SAD-BJP alliance which had done a lot for the city.
