To oppose the Shiromani Akali Dal's (SAD) move of holding protests against Border Security Force (BSF) on the issue of smuggling of drug from the international border on Monday, a large number of Congress leaders and workers gave a memorandum to Ludhiana deputy commissioner, accusing the SAD fold of demoralising the BSF.

The submission of the memorandum was followed by a dharna led by the District Congress Committee, urban, president Gurpreet Singh Gogi. The dharna lasted for one and a half hour wherein the Congressmen raised slogans against the SAD-BJP accusing them of employing 'double standards'.
Gogi said, "Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is trying to demoralise the armed forces by holding protest against the BSF which has not left any stone unturned to safeguard our borders."

Reiterating the words of PCC president Partap Singh Bajwa, Gogi stated that deputy CM had failed to address the issue of drugs despite being the home minister. He also stated that the confrontation between the SAD and BJP was nothing but a sham. "This is nothing but an attempt by the coalition to divide the communities on the basis of caste, creed and religion,"Gogi said.

Several Congress councillors, block presidents, ward chiefs were also there in the protest.
