Sitting Congress MP from Sangrur, Vijay Inder Singla on Sunday alleged that the SAD-BJP government had not utilized funds of centrally sponsored schemes.

In a statement issued here, Singla said under more than 40 central schemes, significant funds were available for providing interest subsidy on educational loans available to the state government but the government had failed to utilise the funds and cheated the youth by closing the doors of opportunities for them.

He also accused the SAD-BJP government of halting the development of Punjab. Singla said that the treasury of the state was empty, no new industry was being set up and the agriculture sector was facing several problems. "Big industrialists are abandoning the state due to the lack of good governance and infrastructure. Youths are getting misguided for want of employment and falling into a drug trap," he added.

He said that everybody knew that the Punjab government had no money to pay for salary and pensions. Pursuing a development agenda was a far-fetched dream today. However, central funds and projects have largely come to the rescue of Punjab.

He urged the people of the state to introspect within and not to let false propaganda of the SAD-BJP alliance sway them. He said that that it had become a habit of SAD-BJP leaders to blame the central government for their failure.
