SAD leader, brothers booked for setting own shop on fire

District president of Backward Class (BC) wing of SAD, Kuldeep Singh and his two brothers have been booked for deliberately burning down their shop in Talwandi Sabo to claim insurance, on December 8.

Two adjoining shops had been damaged in the fire and one of the owners had complained to the police.

Talwandi Sabo SHO Sandeep Singh said that based on a complaint by Krishan Kumar, who runs a small shop, a case under Section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC had been registered against the accused.

"Complainant shopkeepers have claimed that valuables had been taken out from the accused's shop, before setting it on fire on purpose."

Shopkeepers staged a protest in Talwandi Sabo on Wednesday. demanding the immediate arrest of accused.

Avtar Singh, a local trader, said: "We were sympathetic to the brothers, but this new news has left us angry."

He claimed that the police had assured them that as soon as the World Cup Kabaddi concluded, the accused would be arrested.

The sarpanch of Mirjeana village Binder Singh and one Jasbir Singh are the other accused in the case.
