The recent appointment of Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi as the chairperson of district planning committee has created fresh fissures in ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) party.

Party's senior leaders in Banga sub-division, have strongly objected over the appointment of Sukhi alleging that the party ignored their efforts, by honouring those who never contributed for welfare of the party.

They accused that Sukhi, who was earlier a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and had joined SAD in October 2012 and within 10 months, he was rewarded with an important post by party high-command which is totally unacceptable for them.

Earlier, swords were also out in Nawanshahr unit of SAD when a group of senior Akali leader, came openly against SAD leader and son-in-law of Kariha family, Jagteshwar Singh Majithia for running the party's affairs in district.

Senior party leader Rachhpal Singh said they were working for the party for past 40-50 years and even went to jails for the party.

He added that despite being loyal to the party, it had given no important rank to them. Another leader, Sadhu Singh said he had remained a member of co-operative societies for several years and ensured win of SAD workers in sarpanch and others elections.

Other senior SAD leaders, Amar Singh Kataria, Tara Singh also vented anger over the appointment of Sukhi as chairperson of district planning committee.

Nawanshahr SAD in-charge, Satinder Kaur Kariha and her supporters were also reportedly annoyed with Sukhi's appointment.

Former MLA and SAD in-charge of Banga assembly, Mohan Lal said he would convey feelings of senior leadership to high command including the CM.
