The US unit of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has urged the government of India as well as the Punjab government to recognise Maharaja Ranjit Singh as a national hero and also get his darbar record translated into Punjabi and English. It has also urged urged Sukhbir Singh Badal to take up the matter of visas and passports for political asylum seekers in USA with the Indian government.

All the high powered core committee members and other leaders of the East Coast zone and Mid West Coast Zone participated in the meeting which deliberated upon the problems being faced by the Punjabi community in the country. It also demanded amendments in Punjab’s revenue laws to facilitate the resolution of land disputes and division of land.

Several important resolutions were passed in the meeting. The meeting also decided to open three offices in USA and establish its units in all the remaining states and cities of the country and would work with other organisations in USA in connection with Sikh Identity Issues. The US unit will also work towards educating Americans about the Sikh religion so Sikhs no longer become victims of mistaken identity and hate crimes. Committee also urged party high command to establish youth a wing in the country.
