The members of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday staged a protest in front of the police commissioner's office to demand the arrest of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) workers, who held a massive demonstration in the city on November 19, blocking the traffic for more than six hours.

The party workers led by chairman of District Planning Committee Gurcharan Singh Channi gathered in front of the police commissioner's office and started raising slogans to demand the immediate arrest of the BSP workers. The party leaders also submitted a memorandum to commissioner of police Ishwar Singh in this regard.

Meanwhile, when contacted, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Rahul S told Hindustan Times that on the basis of video recording of the protest laid by the BSP workers on November 19, all the identified BSP leaders have been booked under National Highway Act.

“About a dozen names of the BSP leaders have been included in the FIR and all of them will be arrested soon,” the DCP said, without revealing the names of the booked BSP leaders.

On November 19, the BSP leaders, including its state president Parkash Singh Jandali, in-charge of the party's affairs in the state, Parkash Bharti and state general secretary Sukhwinder Kotli, led the party workers in holding protest at PAP Chowk on national highway, demanding the arrest of SAD councillor Balbir Singh Bittu in the Vijay Kumar murder case during the post-Vienna violence.

“Accused Bittu was arrested on December 7, but still the police are in no mood to arrest the BSP leaders,” SAD leader Channi said.
