Jeevan Sekha, a leader of Shiromani Akali Dal’s student wing Student Organisation of India (SOI), was arrested on Friday for his links with gangster Goru Bachcha. A resident of Bhagwan Nagar of Dholewal Chowk, Sekha was appointed the district president of SOI in March this year.
Police said Sekha was involved in planning what Goru and his gang did and sheltering them. Sekha has been booked under Sections 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft), 212 (harbouring offender), 216 (harbouring offender who has escaped from custody) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
Sekha was arrested from CRPF Colony in Dugri area.
Commissioner of police Jatinder Singh Aulakh said police found that Sekha used to arrange accommodation and food for Goru and his gang when they were in the hiding.
Pictures of Goru Bachcha on SOI hoardings that also carried deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal’s photo had raised many eyebrows in the past.
