Alleging that the Shiromani Akali Dal workers and their works were ignored by BJP MLA from Amritsar (East), Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, a few SAD leaders and workers from her assembly constituency staged a protest here on Friday against her and burnt her effigy.

The protesters also blocked traffic on the Sultanwind road while claiming that public welfare works in Akali wards in the segment were suffering due to Dr Sidhu.

The Akali leaders from ward numbers 16, 17 and 34 alleged that even though Akali workers had worked hard to ensure victory of Dr Sidhu in the last Vidhan Sabha polls, but still were ignored.

They alleged that the BJP MLA was biased against them, especially in ward number 34.

Independent councillor Jaskeerat Singh said, "Dr Sidhu is an honest MLA but still it is commonly heard that in East constituency, the Akali workers are being ignored."

When contacted, BJP MLA Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, said, "I am doing my best in my constituency. You can ask people. If they have any resentment, they can come to me. I never harbour a biased approach."
