The body of Punjab chief parliamentary secretary and BJP MLA Amarjit Singh Sahi was brought to his home in Dasuya at about 1.25pm today for cremation, which would be held on Monday morning.
A pall of gloom descended on the locality as soon as leader's body arrived at his residence. The news of his untimely death has sent shockwaves across his constituency.
Sahi, who passed away after a massive cardiac arrest in the morning at his official residence in Chandigarh, is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
Sahi was consecutively elected twice as BJP MLA from Dasuya and appointed as chief parliamentary secretary. He defeated senior Congress leader and his one-time mentor Ramesh Chander Dogra twice in a row. He was one of the few prominent Sikh faces in the BJP.
Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna, chief parliamentary secretary Mohinder Kaur Josh, former Punjab ministers Tikshan Sud and Romesh Chander Dogra, district president of SAD and MLA Surinder Singh Bhulewal Rathan, MLA Tripat Pal Bajwa and many local SAD and BJP leaders visited Sahi's residence to condole the family.
They expressed shock and grief over his sudden demise and prayed to Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
