Sales of paddy seeds begins at Punjab Agricultural University

Rice seeds of varieties including PR 124, PR 123, PR 122, PR 121, PR 118, PR 114 and PR 111 are available at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, officials said, besides University Seed Farm, Ladhowal, Bir Sikhan Wala, Faridkot, Naraingarh near Amloh, Nabha, Kapurthala and all Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the state.

The new paddy variety - PR124 - matures in 135 days and its average yield is 30.5 quintals per acre. These seeds are also available at National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana.

According to Chander Mohan, public relations officer of PAU, these varieties are disease resistant.

Moreover, to serve the farmers throughout the state and adjoining areas, the University seeks to engage government agencies, seed distributors/dealers, and NGOs for the purchase of PAU seeds in large quantities.
