Aam Aadmi Party MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann has termed chief minister Parkash Singh Badal's sangat darshan programme in poll-bound Dhuri assembly segment as 'a toffee' to woo voters.
"I want to ask the chief minister, why he did not come to Dhuri in the past eight years, but after Dhuri MLA Arvind Khanna's regisnation, the CM is distributing toffees of grants to every village in Dhuri to woo voters," said Bhagwant Mann, while talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday.
He, however, announced that the AAP will contest the Dhuri byelection and the decision of the candidate will be taken by the party high command.
Replying to a question about the resignation of Arvind Khanna, Mann said, "Punjab is the only state in the country which is known for byelections, Khanna came here to become a minister but failed and he left in between, without doing anything for people of Dhuri, who had voted for him."
"As Khanna is a friend of Sukhbir Badal, I think, he might have taken the decision (to resign) to free the SAD from the burden of the coalition government, by helping it to get absolute majority," he added.
He said that the Election Commission should take strict note and end the culture of byelections in which the ruling parties misuse government machinery.
Bhagwant also slammed the SAD and the Congress for orgnasing rallies
against drugs saying, "Several liquor contractors were given the responsibility to organse the rallies against drugs, this I think is the biggest mockery with the people of Punjab."
About the Delhi elections, Mann said that Kiran Bedi's induction into the BJP will not affect the poll prospects of AAP, and it will easily get clear majority. "The BJP was using Kiran Bedi as an insurance policy to protect PM Modi's name from defeat," he added.
He said that the BJP did not have a CM candidate and they had to bring Kiran Bedi but the move has cemented the victory of AAP.
Earlier, Bhagwant Mann also dedicated two ambulances to the people of Sangrur from his MPLAD funds.
