This is a test for which the cops will have to shed their proverbial tough demeanour.

The police in Sangrur and Barnala are observing 'Global Police Station Visitors' Week', which began from Monday, to improve the work culture of the policemen at the two districts.

Sangrur senior superintendent of police Harcharan Singh Bhullar said they had constituted police-public committees that would visit every police station and evaluate the in the terms of their work culture, public dealing and other 20 parameters mentioned in a form.

He said the committees would also analyse the behavior and attitude of the policemen towards men
and women. "Besides, special focus will be put on accommodation facilities at police stations for prisoners," Bhullar said.

The week is the brainchild of Altus Global Alliance and is being observed in 20 countries.

SSP Bhullar added committees would submit the evaluation reports at the Punjab Police headquarters in Chandigarh.

"On the basis of reports, model police stations will be identified globally," he said.

He said such campaigns would bring transparency and uniformity in the working of police stations, globally. "Besides, it will motivate police personnel to give their best," he said. And, by the way, Sangrur has something to look forward to. "The last time, Sangrur city police station had been adjudged among the top-three police stations."
