Sangrur police arrest 138 people for carrying drugs in two months
Tightening noose on drug peddlers, the Sangrur police registered 105 cases under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and 102 cases under the Excise Act from May to June 26. Senior superintendent of police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said 138 people had been arrested for carrying different types of drugs during the said period.
Sidhu said the police recovered 2.8 kg opium, around 20 quintals of poppy husk, 10 kg charas, 17gm heroine, 115gm smack. The police also impounded eight trucks, 10 motorcycles, seven cars and a canter used for peddling drugs.
The SSP said under Excise Act, the police seized 3,549 litres of country made liquor, 180 litres if illicit liquor, 36 litres spirit and 200 kg of raw material.
The SSP said that public and social bodies helped the police by providing vital information regarding drug peddlers across the district.
