There could be nothing more welcoming for family of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian prisoner in Pakistan, who died in May this year after being attacked in jail, than a biopic based on the late martyr's life being directed by film-maker Subhash Ghai. And if a seasoned actor like Amitabh Bachchan, who has been approached by Ghai, agrees to play a role in it, it would be a bonus both for the film industry as well as the family.

This is what Dalbir Kaur, sister of the deceased Indian prisoner, had to say about the proposal. "I was aware of Subhash Ghai's proposal to make a biopic based on Sarabjit Singh's life, but I had no idea that he had approached Amitabh Bachchan. Our family would really appreciate it if the seasoned actor accepts the proposal and becomes a part of the production," she said.

She maintained that with Bachchan on board, not only the film-industry, but also the family stood to gain a lot. "There was a lot that happened in jail with Sarabjit that needs to be portrayed properly. Pakistan has always deceived India and has done so even in the case of Sarabjit Singh. Bachchan's involvement in the project would help present the facts accurately," she said.

Thanking Ghai for his initiative, Swapandeep Kaur, daughter of Sarabjit Singh, said that she would personally appeal the legendary actor to be a part of the film. "The film would help the public understand what Pakistan did to my father," she said.

She further said that an actor of the stature of Amitabh Bachchan would be an advantage for the movie. "Bachchan is an internationally acclaimed actor. If he agrees to be a part of the movie it would certainly be a boon," she said.
