A special police team, accompanied by senior officials of the health department, allegedly seized adulterated milk and some other products on Tuesday during a special raid at Longiwind village, under Dharamkot subdivision, 37 km from here.
The police said that Kulvir Singh, sarpanch of the village, and two other people have been arrested in this connection while the other two are absconding.
The officials also conducted raids at some private milk selling and purchasing centres under the jurisdiction of Nihal Singh Wala and Baghapurana subdivisions.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kamaljeet Singh Dhillon said that the raids were conducted on a tip-off that some milk-sellers were preparing synthetic milk and other products by using adulterated milk products at Longiwind.
"We have seized 25,000 litres of adulterated milk from two canter tanks and 8 kg desi ghee," said the SSP.
A case has been registered against the sarpanch and other four people under Sections 420 of Indian Penal Code and 272 and 273 of Food Safety and Standards Act. Three people were arrested but two fled from the spot. Further investigation is underway.
