A youth was allegedly murdered by seven people, including four members of a family, at Kalbanjara village of Lehra subdivision of the district late Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Jugraj Singh, son of village sarpanch Tarsem Singh.

The police, however, have failed arrest any in the case as all the accused are absconding.

Sangrur SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said as per the complaint filed by Jugraj's family seven people, including Gurmail Singh, his son Guljar Singh and two grandsons, have been booked under section 302 (murder) of the IPC.

Lehra DSP Bimal Kumar said the accused attacked Jugraj with kirpans and killed him at the main chowk of the village on Sunday night. The police have started the investigations.

Lehra police station in-charge inspector Pushpinder Singh said there was an old enmity between the two families. The accused had also filed a complaint against the deceased four months ago for threatening and firing outside their house.
