SAS Nagar: After its Facebook debut, the municipal corporation (MC) is mulling the launch of a dedicated WhatsApp number, to which the residents will be able to send messages and lodge complaints against littering.
Through the WhatsApp complaint facility, the MC intends to widen its reach and increase public participation for curbing littering of garbage. The WhatsApp facility would help the residents as they would be able to send pictures of garbage heaps and unclean areas clicked by them to the MC officials, who would ensure prompt action on the complaints.
The MC decided to have a dedicated WhatsApp number while launching the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in SAS Nagar.
“We are considering the launch of a dedicated WhatsApp number for receiving complaints and suggestions to check littering. Most of the residents have smart phones now and we intend to tap the wide reach afforded by instant messaging service, WhatsApp, to increase public participation. A decision in this regard would be taken soon after discussions with the elected representatives and deliberations on feasibility of the service,” said MC commissioner, Uma Shankar Gupta.
MC’s mobile application receiving good response
The MC already has a mobile application, MC CRAMAT’ (Municipal Corporation SAS Nagar Citizens Reporting and Mapping Tool), which facilitates residents to lodge complaints regarding civic issues through SMS service. The application was launched in December 2013, on which residents register their grievances and complaints related to sewerage, water supply, sanitation, street lights and horticulture.
The application facilitates the registration of complaints with photographs of the place, while the location would be detected with the help of Google maps. Further, the application automatically uploads the complaint to the MC server and sends the complainant an email and SMS with the complaint number. It also keeps the complainant informed via SMS and email as and when the MC assigns the complaint and subsequently when it is resolved. Anyone can file a complaint round the clock.
