Expressing concern over the issues raised by the students of Mata Chintpurni Medical College, Pathankot, who met him here on Saturday, Raj Kumar Verka, vice-chairman, National SC/ST Commission, has summoned the chairman, Medical Council of India (MCI); secretary, medical research and education (MRE); and vice-chancellor, Baba Farid University (BFU); to appear before the commission in Chandigarh on October 14.
The students in question have been protesting outside the Government Medical College, Amritsar, against Anil Joshi, minister for medical education, as they want to be shifted to another medical college in the state. The students claim that the MCI had written to the director, research and medical education.
Verka, who heard the students, spoke to Hussan Lal, secretary, medical education and research, on the phone, as the protesting students told him that the officials of the Punjab government had claimed that a note was sent to the MCI and their reply was awaited, but the MCI officials, according to these students, had said that they had not received any written note from the Punjab government.
