The formal inauguration of a school meant especially for the deprived sections of the society at Kapil Park, an area inhabited by people below poverty line, Ludhiana, took place here on Saturday.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal, vice-chairman, Bharti Enterprises was the chief guest. The inauguration of Adarsh Public School was clubbed with Baisakhi celebrations.

Chairman of the school DB Sharma welcomed the chief guest. Sharma said Adarsh Public School was started in 2008. He said it was a herculean effort made by the founding fathers to provide quality education to the deprived sections of the society in such an area. He said there was no school (government or private) in the area.

He added that the school commenced with a total strength of 30 students, but now the strength has gone up to around 600 students with classes up to Class 8.

The school would be upgraded to Class 12 and would be affiliated to the CBSE, he added.

He said with the funds provided by several donors and NGOs such as Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, the management was able to upgrade the school and provide all facilities to its students.

Mittal told the audience that it was a privilege for him to inaugurate the school. He wished that those passing out from the school would be an asset to the nation. The function ended with a vote of thanks by YP Bangia, general secretary of the management.
