A scrap dealer, Mukhtiar Singh, 38 and his 7-year-old daughter Sandeep Kaur were killed in an explosion at their house in Narli village along the Indo-Pak border on Sunday.

The explosion took place when Mukhtiar was trying to extract metal from a rusted bomb. Police suspect that the explosion occurred after a hammer was used to break a bomb-like object.

Deputy superintendent of police Sulakhan Singh, station house officer Anokh Singh rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for post-mortem.

The police said Mukhtiar purchased the scrap from Chhina village and the probe was on.

Of late, old and rusted bombs have been found from Goindwal Sahib and Khemkaran areas in the district.
