Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh will lay the foundation stone of a gurdwara in Chourh Sidhwan village near here on Wednesday.

The gurdwara will be built in memory of 18-year-old BTech student Jaspal Singh, who was killed in the police firing during a bandh called by some Hindu organisations, demanding cancellation of an FIR, on March 28 last year.

Meanwhile the police have made elaborate security arrangements on the roads leading to Chourh Sidhwan village to check any untoward incident during the laying of the foundation stone of the gurdwara. Superintendent of police (detective) Jagjit Singh Saroa said additional police force had been deployed in Gurdaspur to maintain law and order.

Some of the leaders of the radical Sikh organisations are also expected to attend the ceremony.
