In yet another murder in the city, a 70-year-old NRI's decomposed body bearing injuries caused due to a blunt weapon was found in his house at Mahima Singh Wala village in Dehlon.
According to police, prima facie it appeared that the victim was bludgeoned to death with a blunt weapon around 10 days ago.
As there was no sign of robbery, the police suspect an acquaintance behind the murder. The police have also not ruled out the possibility of contract killers behind the crime.
The deceased, Kulwant Singh, was settled in England. He had come to Mahima Singh Wala village in February this year following a feud over property with his brother, Jaswant Singh, who is also settled in England. Jaswant came to Ludhiana on May 13 and has been staying in Ghumar Mandi. The property dispute is sub-judice.
Village sarpanch Joginder Singh was the first to discover the body.
He said he had got a phone call from the victim's brother, Charanjit Singh from England, on Thursday, adding that Charanjit asked him to go to his brother's house, as his mobile phone was switched off and he also did not appear before the court for hearing of the property case on May 20.
Joginder told the police that when he went to Kulwant's house, he found that it was locked from inside, and therefore jumped over the compound wall to enter the house.
He entered the house from the back door, which was open and sensed foul smell emitting from a room.
Joginder said when he entered a room he was shocked to see the decomposed body of Kulwant lying against a wall.
Inspector Satinder Pal Singh, station house officer (SHO), Dehlon police station, claimed it was a planned murder. The police have registered a case of murder against unidentified accused following the statement of sarpanch Joginder and initiated investigation.
