A serial killer, Mohammad Azhar, has admitted to his involvement in seven killings in city, in which five murders were executed for scant money while he was hired to execute two contract killings.
Azhar has allegedly killed two people in the Jamalpur area and two in the Basti Jodhewal area. Ironically, he himself does not know where he had executed another three murders. The police have also arrested his brother Mohammab Nasir and another accomplice Mohammad Sadiq for their involvement in murders. Azhar's another brother, Mazhar, is absconding. He is also wanted by police for his involvement in killings.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, additional deputy commissioner of police (city-4) Sushil Kumar said the accused are natives of Kishan Garh of Bihar.
They used to live in rented accommodations at various places in Ludhiana and worked in a hosiery factory.
The ADCP claimed that the accused are drug addict. They used to befriend their target, generally migrant labourers who used to save money to send it to their family members living in other states. The accused used to kill their victims by gagging them for scant money, some times for Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 only.
They had also poisoned Ravi (26) of New Subhash Nagar for Rs 20,000 in March 2011. Sapna of New Shakti Nagar, former girlfriend of Ravi and her boyfriend Ishwar Singh of same locality had hired them for killing him. Sapna was in relationship with Ravi, but later she dumped him and developed relationship with Ishwar Singh. She had a suspicion that Ravi would not let her marry Ishwar Singh. Sapna and Ishwar Singh hatched a plan and hired Mohammad Azhar for the killing.
Later, Sapna and Ishwar Singh solemnised their marriage. Sapna had delivered a baby girl 13 days ago. The Basti Jodhewal police have arrested Ishwar Singh on Sunday for the crime and he is in police custody.
According to ACP (east) Naveen Singla, the accused have criminal record. Many cases have been registered against him in Kishan Garh police station of Bihar. They have written to all police stations to collect the details of unidentified bodies that were found in their respective areas in last two years.
Singla said police have been interrogating the accused and more important information is expected.
