Setback for Bajwa as close aide, supporters join SAD

Gurdaspur MP and PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa received another setback in the Qadian assembly segment represented by his wife Charanjit Kaur Bajwa when his close aide and maternal uncle Col Avtar Singh Khehra (retd), along with his 600 supporters, joined the Shiromani Akali Dal in the presence of former Punjab minister and senior SAD leader Sewa Singh Sekhwan in Qadian on Saturday.

Interestingly, this development coincides with Bajwa's formal appointment as PPCC president in Chandigarh on Saturday. The defected Congress workers include two leaders of the Parjapati community, Kulwant Singh and Balwinder Kumar.

A few days ago, 250 Congress families of Qadian had joined the SAD. Sekhwan said more and more Congress workers from Qadian would join the SAD in coming days. Welcoming the Congress workers to the party fold, Sekhwan said they would be suitably adjusted in the SAD. He said the Congress had alienated itself from the people of the state because of its "anti-people" policies and programmes.
