Seven booked for Bhiwani poll violence death

A day after a 20-year-old man was killed in firing during a group clash after polling hours, the Bhiwani police booked seven people on murder charge.

A day after a 20-year-old man was killed in firing during a group clash after polling hours, the Bhiwani police booked seven people on murder charge.


The accused have been identified as Virender, Rajesh, Sandeep, Surjeet, Omi, Subodh and Guggal, all residents of Bapoda village of Bhiwani district.

As per details, one Praveen Kumar was killed in the clash at the village after a bullet hit him on Thursday evening soon after polling got over. Two groups, which had altercation during the polling in the morning on Thursday, clashed in the evening.

The deceased was a Youth Congress activist. Bhiwani local leader and state excise minister Kiran Choudhry had reached the hospital to meet the kin of deceased and assured them of police action.

Meanwhile, kin of the victim blocked road at Ghanta Ghar Chowk in Bhiwani for several hours and demanded arrest of the accused.

They also demanded monetary compensation for the family. The blockade was lifted after receiving assurance from the administrative officials.

Investigating officer, sub-inspector Lila Ram said, "Members of the Ravinder and Virender groups of Valmiki community of Bapoda village clashed. One Praveen from Ravinder group was shot dead." On the complaint of Ravinder, police registered a case against seven people and raids were on to arrest the accused, he added.
