The uncle of British woman who had filed a complaint of sexual exploitation against Indian hockey team captain Sardar Singh on Tuesday appeared before the special investigation team (SIT) formed to investigate the matter.
The complaint’s uncle from Panchkula told the SIT that after filing a complaint, his niece returned to the UK and would appear for recording her statement when required.
SIT would decide when to call her for recording the statement.
In her complaint, the 21-year-old woman, who is also a hockey player, had alleged that Sardar Singh got engaged to her in 2014 following which they developed physical relations. She alleged that after she got pregnant in 2015, Sardar Singh got her pregnancy terminated and then refused to marry her.
Ludhiana commissioner of police Paramraj Singh Umranangal had formed a SIT comprising additional deputy commissioner of police (city 4) Satvir Singh Atwal, ACP Gurpreet Kaur Purewal and Koomkalan SHO sub-inspector Surjit Singh Nagra to probe the matter.
Sardar Singh had vehemently denied the allegations, though he agreed that he knew the woman.
