To spread awareness regarding the Sikh religion, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will send ‘identification brochures’ to governments across the world and embassies. Declaring this here on Friday, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said, “These brochures will contain all information about identification of Sikhs, their culture and values.” Makkar was speaking with the media after a meeting of SGPC interim committee at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib.
He said this was being done to ensure that Sikhs don’t suffer in foreign countries as they are often mistaken for Arabs.
Makkar also said SGPC was trying to approach airport authorities in Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar, requesting them to install pictures of Golden Temple. He condemned the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib in California. He said that SGPC had already urged foreign minister Sushma Swaraj to contact California administration and seek an inquiry. He also announced a grant of Rs 30 lakh for the hockey academy at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University.
