A Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) employee accidentally fell into container full of boiling water in the kitchen of the Guru Ram Das Langar Hall at Golden Temple on Monday.

Police said Charanjit Singh, 50, of Chattiwind locality worked as langari (cook) in the kitchen. He was cleaning a big container called karhaha with boiling water around 9am when the incident occurred. Kheer (a sweet dish) was to be prepared in the vessel. His foot slipped suddenly and he fell into the container.

SGPC staff and devotees in the vicinity pulled him out of the container immediately but he was scalded and suffered 60% burns.

He was rushed to the SGPC-run Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital.

Golden Temple manager Sulakhan Singh said, “Doctors say his condition is serious but stable. We are giving him the best possible care.”
