The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has constituted a 21-member panel to find out reasons behind racial attacks on Sikhs abroad and will also suggest measures to curtail such attacks.

The decision to form the committee was taken on Thursday at a meeting chaired by SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar.

Makkar said the panel will meet victims of the racial violence and talk to Sikhs living in foreign countries. He said that anyone could send his or her opinion on the racial attacks to the committee. The members of the committee comprise SGPC members and officials, Sikhs scholars and heads of a couple of religious sects. The panel also has a woman member.

SGPC additional secretary Daljit Singh Bedi will be the coordinator of the panel.

No time frame has been fixed for the panel to submit its report to the SGPC chief.
