The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has welcomed the decision of the British government to allow Sikhs to wear their head gear (turbans) at their workplace instead of helmets.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said that this decision showed the amount of respect British Prime Minister David Cameroon accords to the Sikh head gear. He said that the SGPC in particular and the Sikh community in general were grateful to the British government for the decision.

Makkar hoped that the governments of other nations which had imposed ban on wearing of religious head gears of different communities at places of work, would follow the example of Britain.
