SGPC honours meritorious students of religious study exam

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) honoured students who secured meritorious positions in the Sikh religious study examinations-2012 conducted by the SGPC.

They were given certificates and cash awards by SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar at a function here on Thursday. Separate examinations were held for different age groups and according to the qualifications of the students who took the exams.

Those who stood first in their respective categories were awarded a sum of Rs 2,100 each while those standing second were given Rs 1,500 each and the third position holders received Rs 1,100 each.

On the occasion, Makkar reminded the students and their parents present that the SGPC would provide free education to children of baptised Sikh families in SGPc run schools. However to get this facility, a student too must be baptised. The facility will be applicable from Class-I to Class-XII.
