In another addition to its hi-tech features, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), on Saturday, launched a new internet application, "Live Kirtan", for devotees across the globe.

Launching the free-of-cost application, which works on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said this self-sufficient application had been launched to connect devotees across the world with Gurbani.

Speaking about the application, Jaspal Singh, incharge of the internet section of the SGPC, said the application had been designed in an extremely user-friendly manner and was available in English and Punjabi.

Separate sections for hukumnama, Gurbani and Guru Granth Sahib have been created in the application. The biggest advantage of the application is that the kirtan of 'Elahi Bani' automatically loads when the application is launched, he said.

The daily 'mukhvaak' can be easily read in either English or Punjabi. Similarly, hukumnama can be read without giving any other command or moving to any other page, and can simultaneously be heard by the user. Further, a hukumnama archive has also been created which contains hukumnamas of any date from 2002 onwards. The 'katha' of 'mukhvaak', which is done at Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Diwan Hall as well as the 'katha' on the occasion of Sangrand can be heard and read on the application.

The Gurbani section contains Nitnem and other banis, which can be both read and heard. Gutkas are available in both old and new style of writing Gurbani, in Roman as well as Gurmukhi scripts. The size of the font can also be increased or decreased, as per convenience. Transliterations as well as translations of Gurbani have been included.

In the Guru Granth Sahib section, Guru Granth Sahib has been converted into a mobile-friendly version. When the user starts reading any section of Guru Granth Sahib, the audio format of Gurbani related to that section automatically starts playing, which also helps in the correct pronunciation of Gurbani.

The monthly list of raagi jathas performing kirtan at Harmandar Sahib is also available in the application. The application also contains the Nanakshahi calendar and 'jantri'.

A separate recorded section has also been created, in which recordings of the kirtan performed at Harmandar Sahib has been uploaded. The users can select the kirtan for any particular day and hear it.

The photo gallery contains pictures of Gurus and pictures relating to Sikh history, a Punjabi dictionary are other features. Users can download the application from any Apple Store by searching for "Live Kirtan".
