In a bid to further improve the management of 'serais' (pilgrim rest houses) on the Golden Temple complex, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), for the first time in its history, has outsourced the cleanliness and basic maintenance services of two 'serais' for a period of one year.
The contract for Guru Arjan Dev Niwas and Mata Ganga Niwas has been handed over to Efficient Services, a Chandigarh-based company.
Talking to mediapersons after inaugurating a laundry unit at Mata Ganga Niwas on Tuesday, SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar said the company will be paid Rs 7.5 lakh per month for the maintenance of services in the two 'serais'.
Makkar added that if the work is found satisfactory, the SGPC will consider handing over some more of its 'serais' to it. Efficient Services manager Gagandeep Singh pointed out that the company will be incharge of looking after 240 rooms in two 'serais' besides taking care of the cleanliness of washrooms, corridors and halls.
