In a communication to Union home minister Rajnath Singh, the SGPC has demanded conduct of polls of its office-bearers. After orders of the Supreme Court to reinstate the SGPC House of 2011, a new executive is to be chosen. The home ministry is expected to give its nod within this week, and in three weeks the polls are likely to be held.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, who held a meeting with his party’s elected SGPC members in Chandigarh on Tuesday, told them the elections are expected in the last week of October. While moving out, Sukhbir told HT that it was to meet members whose tenure could not begin in 2011 due to the court’s stay.
